For Mike Enos, Senior Vice President of Marketing, the decision to formalize a relationship with Salva O'Renick comes at a critical time for NovaStar. Continuity and consistency is crucial as the company rolls out its newly-developed brand image through a variety of distribution channels in the forms of direct response, recruiting, shareholder and other communications.

"Salva O'Renick's focus on financial services marketing, as well as their proven ability to protect and enhance the NovaStar brand, gives our team a great deal of confidence as we go forward. That's why we chose them," said Enos.

Enos, a Kansas City advertising veteran, joined NovaStar in March of 2002 with the charge of quickly developing and implementing a marketing plan that would satisfy the company's aggressive growth objectives. Lance Anderson, President of NovaStar, has been pleased with the role marketing has played in the company's recent success. "We've developed a very strong wholesale and retail network. Our operational structure and technology are very sophisticated. It was important that Mike build a marketing team that matches those standards," said Anderson.

NovaStar began working with Salva O'Renick in May of 2002 and the relationship has grown as both companies have grown. "It is no coincidence that our growth has coincided with that of NovaStar Financial," said Mark Shrout, Managing Director of Salva O'Renick. He added "As we've enhanced our offering, we've been able to solve more and more problems for our clients."

Salva O'Renick, founded in 1996 by Dan Salva and Mark O'Renick, also attributes its growth to its decision to focus its expertise primarily in the area of financial services. "This industry has unique challenges and opportunities, many of which were brought on by deregulation. Firms in this sector need a partner that knows how to communicate with consumers and business owners who purchase financial services. We've been able to help firms communicate just how easy it is to buy products and services from them," said O'Renick, who prior to co-founding the agency spent 11 years in the trust division of a national financial services firm.

Salva O'Renick has been recognized as the 37th fastest growing company in the Kansas City area, according to the July 2003 issue of Ingram's Magazine. The company also rates as one of the top 25 advertising agencies and web developers in the city, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.

Salva O'Renick Bridges Communications Gap Created by Financial Services Deregulation
( June 30, 2003 )

Salva O'Renick, a sales and marketing communications firm based in Kansas City, Missouri, is steadily building a reputation for helping financial services providers leverage the potential created by the deregulation of the financial services marketplace.

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 opened up new opportunities for banks, insurance companies and investment management firms to cross-sell a wide range of products and services. Success, however, has been slow to develop. "While the intent of the act was to empower the consumer with more choices as a result of increased competition, deregulation has also created confusion for consumers and competitive challenges for providers of financial services," says Mark O'Renick, President of Salva O'Renick.

O'Renick believes that the key to success in this deregulated marketplace is for firms to simplify the process of purchasing products. "Trust is key in selling financial services and companies that can communicate efffectively to help their customers better understand financial issues will establish themselves as a likely choice for consumers," added O'Renick.

O'Renick says the stakes are high. Households with incomes of $50,000 to $100,000 generate nearly $10,000 annually in financial services income. Further, the majority of Americans are underinsured, and most have no formal financial plan and lack the resources to retire comfortably. "People need answers, and our clients are putting themselves in a position to provide those answers," O'Renick says.

The firm has recently expanded its facility and has increased its resources in key areas, such as research and technology. It is also adding to its base of financial services clients that includes H&R Block, NovaStar Financial, IAC Group and Bank Midwest. The firm is establishing a marketing presence in Omaha, Des Moines and the New England states.
