Who uses social media?

Who doesn’t?

I’ve been reading a lot lately about the demographics of social media users, with the highlight being that it’s not just for the teeny-boppers or 20-something socialites.  It appears that what many of us have known all along is now being brought to light by the media.

All of this was vividly brought to life for me within the last week as I realized that both my mother and my grandmother have facebook profiles.  And they use them!  They post status updates, comment on links that I share, and write on each others walls.  All too often we discount the wise ones with regard to their tech savviness.  But they get it.

It’s just another testament to the fact that social media is not just another fad that only the hip and trendy buy into – it truly is a shift in how people discover, read and share news, information and content.  The fact that this technology has transformed traditional monologue into dialogue, empowering everyday people to be content publishers, has not been lost on anyone.  Except the cavedwellers, of course.
